The enchanting community of Coloma, Michigan actually began as a business venture. A husband and wife team built a mill, planning to use the Paw Paw River as a means to transport wooden shingles. Although this first endeavor at establishing a settlement met with hardship and struggle, eventually the mill flourished and Shingle Diggins was born. The town relocated to the other side of the river and was renamed Coloma. Now a thriving resort area, Paw Paw Lake in Coloma draws thousands of guests to this picturesque region every year. The annual event takes place during the first weekend of August and includes carnival rides, arts and crafts, parades and fireworks. Annual 4th of July is one of the best in the area with parades, boat parade and fireworks.
