Union Pier, MI
Union Pier is located in the heart of Harbor Country bordered on one side by Lake Michigan and the other by the Galien River. Less than 90 miles to the Loop, this community is the home to several bed and breakfasts, inns. The wide Lake Michigan beaches plus laid back approach is the perfect mix for a place to call home.
Back in the 1860s, the town built their own union pier, which stretched for 600 feet out into the expansive waters of Lake Michigan. The pier boasted tracks to help provide the horses and mules with the capabilities they needed for pulling timber out from all of the saw mills that sat amongst the forests and onto all of the ships that were waiting for cargo. Business in town was amazing with more than 100 people being employed in the industry. Stores, residences and other commerce locations were soon erected in town to provide way to the community that you see today.

This area is largely defined for its attractive natural features. The most significant of these is the Lake Michigan shoreline, with its wooded sand dunes and expansive beaches as well as the Galien River. Away from the lake you will find some of the most beautiful acreage and country estate homes in the area.
Nearby is Warren Dunes State Park, a 1,952-acre Michigan state park. It features camp grounds, hiking trails, amazing dunes, 3 miles of shoreline as well as its natural splendor.
Several golf courses in the area include Whittaker Woods, Chikaming Country Club and Lost Dunes. Less than 5 minutes away to New Buffalo with its restaurants, boating and shopping.
The International Friendship Gardens is perfect for those who love being outdoors and experiencing nature in all its glory. You will be able to walk along all of the trails inside the gardens and experience a variety of plants, trees and foliage that is sure to entice and invigorate your senses.
